English: We learned two poems this month- 'Kangaroo goes hopping' and 'Winter'. We were practising making connections as we read. We read the stories 'Not now Bernard' and 'Emma's Lamb' and made connections as we read the stories. The narrative writing was finally finished and we were able to publish our stories. Some of the titles included 'The Crystal Queen' and 'The Robbery'.
Irish: We were learning about the topic of food. We were learning how to ask what somebody would like to eat and we were learning how to say different foods in Irish. We also learned some new Irish verbs and made sentences with them.
Maths: This month we have been doing lots of practice with subtraction. We have been using lollipop sticks to rename numbers if the number on the top is smaller than the number on the bottom. We have also starting doing lots of word problems. We are practising to Read, Understand, Choose, Solve, Answer and Check.
SESE: We spent a lot of time learning about Australia and we had great fun in doing so. We learned all about their history, sport, food, people, music and geography. Some people even brought in some Australian items! In Science, we learned about Australia animals and we completed reports on Koalas and Kangaroos. We also did an experiment to check what happens to dirty coins when vinegar and salt is added to them.
Art: We used some old materials and made lots of junk art items using the theme of Australia. We painted Monet watercolour paintings and we also made the Sydney Opera house using paper plates. Lots of students were also making junk art creations at home. They were cool!
PE: We were practising running and jumping. We were trying to improve our speed and we practised jumping off both our left and right feet.
