English: We have been working on the theme of 'Myself' for the first few weeks of the year. Here are some of the things we have been working on.
English: We wrote about ourselves and our summer holidays, we discussed parts of the body, we discussed positive adjectives to describe people and we wrote about our timeline from the past (History). Reading strategy- Predicting. We are making predictions about what is going to happen next in the story. Phonics- 'ing', 'ack' ,-all. Poem: 'The Land of the Bumbley Boo' and 'Back to School Shopping'. We also prepared questions to find out about each other and we took turns interviewing each other. We tried to use open questions when asking questions.
Maths: We have been focusing on number during September. We have been playing lots of games to improve our speed at adding and subtracting numbers. Everyone is looking for doubles and near doubles to help them to add faster and we have also been learning all of the partners for ten. We used some of the games from this website to improve our speed: http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/addition-and-subtraction
SESE: We learned about different body parts and what role they have to play in order to keep us healthy. We also learned about different types of houses and the students used lots of adjectives to describe their houses. We discussed all of the senses that we have and how we use them. One student even volunteered to be blind for twenty minutes and he told us how that felt. Members for the green school committee had to be chosen. Some students in Rang a Dó ran a campaign and gave speeches to get nominated. Ms. O'Kane's class chose Tom as the winner. Well done to him and his team.
